Kristin Perkins, designer and owner of the Dylan Keith Salon on Magnolia Blvd., in Burbank, has created an oasis and a slice of heaven that beckons with its soothing décor and pampering services. The Salon services offered not only enhance ones exterior beauty, but offer something else. Perkins, a mother of three, strives to lift spirits and make a positive connection with every person that walks through her doors. The décor of the Salon is calming and peaceful with its glowing chandeliers and silver laced mirrors. Mobiles of colorful butterflies hanging from the ceiling twirl and dance in the soft light. There is a sense of calm and peace embracing the customers and mingling with the echo of blow dryers. The uplifting ambience that Perkins has created for her customers is the positive manifestation of a very dark and grief-stricken journey. In March 2010, Perkins lost her seven-year-old son, Dylan Keith, after a tragic fall in their home. He died in her arms.Perkins was engulfed in an overwhelming dark abyss. She knew she had to get through it, and be there for her three other children; Alyssa 11, Ashley 8, (Dylan’s twin), and Austin who is 3.
So, armed with her life savings and 18 years of experience in prestigious salons, Perkins threw herself into her dream of designing her own salon.
“I love doing hair, and I’ve always wanted to open a salon,” Perkins says. “I wanted to bring a little of Beverly Hills over the hill, but at a reasonable price. I still cry every day,” says Perkins. “But, if I can get through what I’ve been through, anybody can. Every day is a new beginning.”
The creation of the Salon was her therapy. With the help of her exceptional staff of 18 and Gaby Martinez, her manager and trained stylist, the work was completed in four whirlwind months. The 3,000 square foot Dylan Keith Salon, named in honor of her son, opened October 18, 2010.
The Salon is high-end and uses only the best quality products at affordable prices. Her array of services is designed to soothe and lift the spirit while enhancing the outer beauty. They cater to all ages and Perkins is happy to accommodate her celebrity client’s unusual hours and requests. Children’s haircuts start at $22 and are $25 for men. Women’s haircuts begin at $47. Highlights and color start at $75. There are soothing and rejuvenating Lymphatic drainage facials, waxing, teeth whitening, tanning, artistic manicures, pedicures and make-up. All products used are organic. All Salon services include a stress relieving head massage, and male clients receive a complimentary neck trim. Children are treated to a treasure hunt, complete with apple juice and a lollipop, or gum ball. Cleanliness and good hygiene in the Salon is maintained at the highest standards.
It is known as a hidden gem in the Hollywood/Burbank area. But, it is a gem that shines too brightly to remain hidden for long.
